It’s been five months since the earthquake that left Lincoln Heights devastated, and the Suttons are temporarily housed in a FEMA apartment but are preparing to move. Jenn’s dad, Coleman, has offered to pay the down payment on a new house in a better neighborhood, along with the repair bills on their house to get them out of Lincoln Heights. The police question Charles and Cassie as to the real cause of Mac’s death in the earthquake, but their mismatching stories cause the cops to dig deeper. Charles is also still hiding the money from the Sutton’s attic, causing him to be on edge throughout the investigative process. Eddie finds a hurt little girl named Briana when he searches a crack house and takes her to the clinic for help. When Jenn takes her home for a family dinner, she ends up being too overwhelmed and runs away after stealing a bunch of things from the Sutton’s home. Tay’s plan to help out by secretly getting a job backfires when he has a diabetic attack from being so stressed and not eating properly, but Briana stole Tay’s insulin shots. Jenn and Nat Ray rush him to the clinic to find it locked, and Nat Ray has to break a window to gain entry in order to save Tay’s life. Eddie finds Briana, and Sophia Munoz offers to watch her while her drug addicted mother gets help. As they drive away from the neighborhood, the Sutton’s have a change of heart and decide to stay in Lincoln Heights after all.
