2022 has come and gone. And it is natural for us to be thinking about and considering what we want the next year of our lives to look like. We thought it would be helpful to share a few questions that may help you narrow down what goals you need to be setting in this new year. So here are a few questions you can ask yourself to get started:

What do I want?

This question can be harder than it seems. When you ask “What do I want?” you aren’t asking for right now. You aren’t asking about material possessions or what you desire at this moment. What you are asking is what you want for your life. Bigger than a car, more than a house, deeper than that new TV. What you want is that piece that will fulfill you and make getting up in the morning a pleasure. Ask yourself and spend some time with it. There is no rush. What do you want?

Why do I want this?

Once you answer the question of what you want – and only you can answer that — the next step is understanding why you want it. What does it mean to you? What does it mean to your family and friends? There really is something special about knowing why you’re doing what you’re doing. When the nights start getting late and the mornings are earlier and earlier the why you do what you do and want what you want, will be what propels you forward beyond how you feel. Why do you want this?

How much am I willing to sacrifice?

Decide, here and now, how much you are willing to give. Before you begin plowing through, make the decisions and set your boundaries now, so when you are at those inevitable crossroads you will already have done the work of knowing what you’re going to give and what you aren’t. There is no shame in recognizing you aren’t willing to sacrifice everything. We all have a line and the worst thing you can do is not honor yourself by trying to be what you think they want you to be. So, ask yourself How much am I willing to sacrifice? And when you have that answer, don’t breach that for anyone.
