It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
As we gear up for one of television’s biggest nights, it’s refreshing to see some familiar faces getting the recognition that they deserve ahead of this year’s Emmys.
Our favorite daddy-daughter acting duo, Ron and Jasmine Cephas Jones, made history last year as the first father-daughter duo to win Emmys within the same year.
Today they presented the nominations for this year’s star-studded event.
This year, it looks like some of our most talented superstars are about to receive flowers that are well overdue.
First up, Michaela Jaé (Mj) Rodriquez makes history as the first transgender performer to be nominated in a major acting category. She snagged the nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her performance as Blanca in the final season of “Pose”. Jurnee Smollett (“Lovecraft Country” and Michaelas! Uzo Aduba (“In Treatment”) are also nominees in the category.
Michaela Coel is also among the list of nominees racking up notable nominations for her performance in “I May Destroy You.” The categories include Lead Actress in a Limited/Anthology/Movie, Writing For a Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Coel isn’t the only “I May Destroy You” star up for an award. Paapa Essiedu has also snagged a nomination for Supporting Actor in a Limited/Anthology/Movie category.
Other nominees include Bill Porter (“Pose) Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us”), and Regé- Jean Page (“Bridgerton”) are all up for Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
For Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, the nominees include Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”) and Kenan Thompson (Kenan).
Tracee Ellis Ross held it down for the ladies with her nominee for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Black-ish.”
The 73rd Emmy Awards will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer on September 19th and will be the first in-person ceremony since the pandemic.
