Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman ever elected to the US Congress said it best when she declared, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”As the first blackwoman to run for president for a major political party, Chisholm was forward thinking andunderstood the significance of letting black women lead.
Melissa Ingram, General Manager of Aspire TV also understands the gravity of representation and paving the way for women of color to see themselves as echoed by the brand tagline, “See Yourself Here.”
In a recent interview, Ingram shared her secret to creating positive, diverse representation at Aspire TV by stating, “We are a brand trusted by black women, largely because black women creatives are the force behind the brand; they believe that we are a place for them because we reflect them, understand them and, most importantly, serve them by providing a platform for them to be heard and their works seen.”
Aspire TV honors black women and the culture every day. Women’s History Month just gives us another opportunity to applaud the efforts of the diverse creatives and talent that have made Aspire TV what is today.
