Marcano disappeared Friday, September 24 around 5 p.m. at the Arden Villas Apartments where she worked in the leasing office and also lived as a resident. The complex’s maintenance man Armando Cabellero, 27, was named a person of interest in Marcano’s disappearance.
Cabellero told Orange County Detective John Mina that he saw Marcano working at the complex around 3 p.m. that day. Cabellero also revealed that Mina displayed romantic interest in Marcano which the latter did not return.
“We now know that maintenance issued master key FOB which Caballero was known to be in possession of was used to enter Miya’s apartment on Friday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m.,” Mina said. “This would have been about 30 minutes before she finished her shift at the apartment complex.”
Cabellero’s cell phone records pinned him at the scene of Marcano’s apartment for approximately 20 minutes.
After the discovery that he had unlawfully entered Marcano’s apartment, deputies obtained a warrant to search Cabellero’s apartment. Officials, however, were not able to serve the 27-year-old as that his body was found in the garage of his apartment complex. The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed.
“Everyone wanted this outcome to be different,” said Mina. “As a sheriff, as a father, obviously we are grieving at the loss of Miya.”
Marcano was honored by family and friends through flyers and a candlelight vigil. She was a sophomore at Valencia College.
