Shut out of entertainment’s mainstream, Hollywood’s newest billionaire Tyler Perry wrote, produced and starred in his own American success story. “I love when people say you come from ‘humble beginnings,’ ” he says. “[It] means you were poor as hell.” It also makes success sweeter. “Ownership,” he adds, “changes everything.” 🔗 in bio for how @tylerperry changed show business forever.
His studio, which sits on a portion of former Fort McPherson U.S. Army Base, in Atlanta, Georgia, is just a few exits down from where he would sleep in his car when first starting out.
Tyler Perry Studios is the home for his original content and the place where several blockbusters, including “Bad Boys For Life” and “Black Panther”, were filmed. “Black Panther” set the bar high as the first movie to ever be filmed at his facility.
Like the true self-made visionary he is, Perry tells Forbes, “Ownership is everything.” He also shares why he loves for people to say he started from the bottom. “ I love when people say you come from ‘humble beginnings.’ It means you were poor as hell,” he adds, “It also makes success sweeter.”
And as someone that comes from humble beginnings, Perry knows the importance of lifting as you climb. Although he’s generated more than $2 billion to date, he constantly gives back through his random acts of kindness and support for various civil rights organizations.
Perry recently made national headlines after his decision to resume production earlier this summer. He has created a coronavirus “bubble,” which takes a host of safety measures to keep everyone healthy. Not only do cast and crew live on-site but they receive extensive COVID-19 testing as well.
He will also be honored at the 78th annual Primetime Emmys later this month with the 2020 Governors award.
We love to see Tyler Perry on such a winning streak! Congrats to him on reaching his well-deserved billionaire status!
