Rapper Cordae received a legendary surprise this week.
Coach Ken Carter, the famous basketball coach who inspired the hit movie “Coach Carter” paid a surprise visit to the DMV rapper at his Sacramento show.
Carter planned the pop-up after learning that he was the namesake for Cordae’s song, titled “C Carter”.
“I’m very proud of Cordae; he’s a pleasant young man, talented artist, AND– he plays basketball.” Carter said after meeting Cordae. “I’ll have to see how well he plays one of these days soon.”
Coach Ken Carter is the inspiration behind the 2005 film “Coach Carter”, where Samuel L. Jackson played the title character. Carter gained notoriety after his decision to lock his undefeated basketball team out of the Richmond High School gym, due to poor academic performance, in 1999 made national headlines. The lockout, along with Carter’s other stern means to help the basketball team excel, helped the Richmond High School team succeed academically and athletically.
