Coping With COVID? Taraji P. Henson Provides Free Virtual Therapy For Black People Affected By COVID-19

Actress Taraji P. Henson will provide free “virtual therapy” services for those who cannot afford it during this COVID-19 shutdown.

African Americans are suffering disproportionately from COVID-19, unemployed, furloughed and over-indexing in cases and deaths. Henson’s latest efforts are helping Black people cope with these new realities and working to break the stigma of mental health issues within the Black community.

“We’ve been taught to tough it out, hide our suffering, but this is something none of us have ever experienced, and no one should suffer in silence,” said Henson.

She also adds, “This campaign is for under-served communities experiencing life-changing events related to, or triggered by, the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Henson has always been open about her late father’s struggles with mental health after serving in the Vietnam War. The Empire actress will lead the campaign with the support of the organization she founded and named after her father, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation.

According to the foundation’s website, “Individuals with life-changing stressors and anxiety related to the coronavirus will have the cost for up to five individual sessions defrayed on a first-come, first-serve basis.” Henson is also appealing for donations to defray the cost.
