More details emerge as the divorce proceedings for Dr. Dre and Nicole Young continue.
According to reports, Young filed a lawsuit claiming Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, kicked her out of their home in April following a “night of Andre’s alcohol-induced brutal rage.”
Young allegedly suffered “years of domination, control, abuse, and mistreatment” during their 24 years of marriage.
Sources close to the rapper deny any abuse and say her claims are “the act of a desperate woman who finally realized that the iron-clad prenup she signed doesn’t win her the lottery.”
Their divorce first made headlines after Young requested $5 million in legal fees. Now, on top of abuse claims, Young accuses Dr. Dre of holding money from her through a holding company owned solely by him. He put trademarks in place for his stage name, “Dr. Dre,” and the name of his debut album, “The Chronic” and therefore denies her “equal ownership.”
According to Young, the trademarks were originally filed in 1997, a year after the two tied the knot on May 25, 1996.
Dr. Dre’s sources allege that Young’s recent filings, which also include temporary spousal support in the amount of $2 million per month, is an attempt to bypass their pre-nuptial agreement. The same agreement that Young claims Dr. Dre destroyed during happier times. She claims that she signed under duress.
This is not the first time Dr. Dre has been accused of abuse, singer Michel’le and hip-hop journalist Dee Barnes are among former women who’ve spoken out against the rapper. What are your thoughts on Young’s latest claims?
