Aunt Naomi surprises Cassie for her 18th birthday with a plane ticket to visit her in New York City. Cassie agrees to go when a sick Jenn tells her that she needs to see the world and focus on her future. Cassie falls instantly in love with the city, and meets a student from Pratt named Julian. He takes her on a tour of the school and they end up back at his place. After not taking a call from Charles, Julian takes the opportunity to get Cassie to pose for one of his art instillations. She returns back to Lincoln Heights invigorated about going to Pratt, especially after Naomi explains the opportunities for her in the city. Back home, the family continues to be concerned about Jenns condition. Eddie tries to keep problems that Tay and Malik are having with bullies at school from Jenn as to not worry her. He approaches the bullies himself to warn them against continuing their behavior. He also gets the police force to begin empathy classes at the school for kids that were involved. The problem worsens when Lizzie calls Eddie, worried that Tay is missing, and they realize hes being held by the bullies in a mysterious location. Lizzie tries out for a part in the school play opposite Andrew, but goes up against mean girl Angie for the lead role. She gets the part but is mysteriously called to the principals office, leading the cast to think Angie might steal the part back somehow. Jenn gets even more serious about finding out what her sickness is when Rhonda suddenly passes away.
