Gabrielle Union puts it all on the table in her new book!
In her second book, “You Got Anything Stronger,” the actress opens up about her feelings toward Dwayne Wade after he had a baby outside of their relationship. At the time she was experiencing fertility issues.
“To say I was devastated is to pick a word on a low shelf for convenience,” she said in the memoir. “I have not had words, and even after untold amounts of therapy, I am not sure I have them now. But truth matters.”
The 48-year-old actress reveals the rocky moments during her relationship with the 39-year-old former NBA superstar. She recalls her initial reaction when she learned that Wade was going to be a father in 2013 prior to their August 2014 marriage.

“The experience of Dwyane having a baby so easily — while I was unable to– left my soul not just broken into pieces, but shattered into fine dust scattering in the wind,” she continued. “We gathered what we could to slowly remake me into something new. There was no way to disguise where I’d been glued back together.”
It was the birth of Wade’s child, Xavier (7), with Aja Metoyer, while the couple was on a break that became a blow that was almost unbearable.
During her attempt to conceive is when Union really hit bottom.
She remembers thinking, “This woman is such a failure. And she has the nerve to be old. And she has the nerve to have a younger husband. And she has the nerve to stick with a guy who had a kid with somebody else.”
The “Bring It On” actress says that at the time her “feelings weren’t originating from a healthy place.”
Union also recalls that despite the support from her partner during the rocky road to motherhood, she felt as if she would have to let him go if she couldn’t give him a child.
“So much of what made the decision so difficult was that if I didn’t submit to a surrogacy, then I was convinced I needed to let Dwayne go,” wrote the “Deliver Us From Eva” star, “Even if he didn’t want to, I had to let him find someone who could give him what he wanted. But I loved him.”
Now, the couple has a 2-year-old daughter Kaavia, who was conceived through her decision to choose surrogacy. Union is also a loving bonus mom to Wade’s children from a previous marriage, Zaya (14) and Zaire (19).
“I can never know if my failure to carry a child put a ceiling on the love my husband has for me,” shared the Nebraska native. “Yes, I am Baby Mama number three, a label that is supposed to be an insult. If I am telling the fullness of our stories, of our three lives together, I must tell the truths I live with. I have learned that you can be honest and loving at the same time.”
Shoutout to Union for walking in her truth. “You Got Anything Stronger” is now available on shelves everywhere.
