We’re saddened to report the loss of one of our favorite reality television moms.
According to TMZ, Keyshia Cole’s mother overdosed at her Oakland home on Sunday. The same day that she celebrated her 61st birthday.
Frankie and Keyshia’s father, Virgil Hunter, made the decision to have the “Love” singer adopted at a young age.
Keyshia and her mother would go on to reconnect during her adult years.
Frankie was reality television gold, arriving on the scene in the hit series, “Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is.” Their mother-daughter relationship was documented throughout the series and across social media in the past few years.
The singer and her family would also give updates via Instagram about her mother’s decades-long journey to sobriety. In 2018, Keyshia offered a few words of advice for people who also had family members struggling with addiction.
“Every time my mom relapse, it breaks my heart more than it’s already been broken,” she wrote. “I’m hoping if any of u are dealing with a family member who’s battling with drug addiction, that you, yourself are learning how to cope with the struggle of it all. And all the pain it brings to see a loved one constantly relapsing. See them go back to the streets Because that’s what they’re used to, or would rather be. I really miss you! And will always love u.”
According to Keyshia’s brother, Sam, Frankie relapsed while celebrating her birthday Sunday (July 18) after what he said was a long, hard-fought journey to sobriety. He also shared that he would check in with his mother on a daily basis to try to help her stay clean.
Keyshia’s sister, Elite Noel, also confirmed the news of their mother’s death via Instagram stories.

She writes that she was feeling the worst “pain ever to see my mama in a body bag on her birthday! My heart so f***** broke.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Keyshia Cole and her entire family during this difficult time.
