When five year old Marni lost her mother, she was devastated, but thankfully her BFF, Gemma, was always by her side. Ten years later, Marni’s ecstatic that her mother’s favorite poet will be teaching at an distinguished Arts Magnet School. Gemma gets accepted, however Marni’s father has neglectfully missed the registration deadline and the school now only has seats left for “diverse” candidates. Realizing that her dreams may disappear, Gemma convinces Marni to do something drastic. Things go awry, but the girls learn a valuable lesson about race, politics and friendship in this poignant, yet tender, N’coming of age’ comedy.
