Nicki Minaj Shares How Public Criticism Caused Her Anxiety

Rapper Nicki Minaj sat alongside James Corden Wednesday night for an episode of “Carpool Karaoke” and decided to get vulnerable.

In between fun performances of the “Queen” superstar, Minaj shared with Corden her experiences since entering motherhood and with anxiety.

“I think when you are a woman and you’re in the public eye all the time if you’re not careful you can become less confident because you’re being constantly scrutinized,” Minaj said. The Jamaica Queens artist opened up to Corden about her dwindling confidence level since entering the music industry. She shared that at her start, she was more confident. Now after over a decade in the business, Minaj has been privately struggling with anxiety.

“I just don’t think it’s natural. It’s not natural for a human being to just always feel like everyone’s critiquing them.” She continued.

“When I first came into the industry, I had this amazing sense of freedom because nobody gave a sh** about what I was doing. And then it goes from that to the complete, complete opposite. Where it’s like, if I blink my eye wrong, they’ll have a story made up about why I blinked my eye that way.”

Minaj then gave Corden the secret of how she best manages her anxiety which included chewing on ice, taking social media breaks, and spending time with her son.

“Whenever I am off of social media, and I take that s— off my phone, I have this enormous sense of peace. And then you realize what really matters.” The Young Money songstress said.
