Queen Nicki is prepared to take over the 2022 Video Music Awards.
Not only will the “Moment for Life” emcee hit the stage to perform for the first time in five years, but she will also be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount and chief content officer, music at Paramount+. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki.’”
Previous recipients of the illustrious award include Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliott, and more.
“I’m receiving the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 #VMA’s,” Nicki shared via Twitter. “You don’t wanna miss my performance.”

In 2011, Minaj won her first VMA for best hip-hop video, solidifying her stance at the annual event and dominating in the “Best Hip Hop” category for years. Overall, she is a 17-time VMA nominee and a five time winner. This year she is nominated once again for “Best Hip-Hop.” Since her first performance in 2012, Minaj has hit the stage at the VMAs a total of six times.
More recently, she snagged yet another VMA for her 2019 “Hot Girl Summer” collab with fellow emcee Megan Thee Stallion.
Currently, Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, and Lil Nas X lead the nominations for this year’s VMAs with a total of seven noms each. The Weeknd follows closely with a total of 5 nominations. Winners will be determined through fan voting.
The 2022 Video Music Awards is set to air on Aug. 28th
