Before the incident, Pierce was a regular contributor on ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” and “The Jump.” The 43-year-old was the first-round pick out of Kansas in the 1998 NBA Draft and played for the Boston Celtics from 1998-2013 before winning a championship in 2008.

After a trade to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013, he spent the 2014-15 season with the Washington Wizards before closing out his final two seasons for the Los Angeles Clippers.

In 2017, he re-signed with Boston so that he could retire as a Celtic.

While the network has not yet publicly commented on the decision, sports reporter Ryan Glasspiegel shared the news via Twitter.

“Source: ESPN parted ways with Paul Pierce effective immediately,” he tweeted.

Pierce also responded to the news via Twitter.

“Big Things coming soon stay tuned make sure u smile #Truthshallsetufree,” he said in a Tweet accompanied by a video of him smiling.

He also took the time out to thank his supporters via Instagram.

“Yo, just wanna thank all my supporters, wanna thank my haters and everything,” said Pierce in the video. “Look, check it out, bigger and better things coming baby. Don’t worry about it. You fall twice, get up three times. Just always remember to smile baby.”
