Talk about bravery!
It takes courage to walk away from situations that mean us no good. Award-winning actress, mental health advocate, and entrepreneur Taraji P. Henson is getting candid about her experiences during a past abusive relationship.
The 51-year-old actress sat down with Angela Simmons ahead of her new series, “Peace Of Mind With Taraji,” headed to Facebook Watch next week.
Simmons, who also has encountered an abusive relationship, opened up alongside Henson about how they managed to move on and heal from those past situations.
“Sometimes, as women, what we do is we fall in love and we go, ‘You know what? I’ll fix it later,'” said Henson.
She further explains the realization that she needed to get out.
“For me, it was when blood was drawn,” she continued. “It started with the bruises and grabbing, things like that. And then once the fist came, once the balled hand came and the fists — and I’m missing a piece of my lip to this day — that’s when I knew I had to go.”
After growing up around abuse at a young age, it was imperative for Henson to provide a better living environment for her now 27-year-old son, Marcell Johnson.
“I was like, ‘I don’t want my son around this.'”
Now, Henson continues to live life to the fullest. aspireTV previously reported on her decision to end her recent engagement to Kelvin Hayden last year just a few days after celebrating her 50th birthday.
“My happiness is not his responsibility and his happiness is not mine,” said Henson at the time.
