After all that trouble, sometimes it’s easier to just keep the last name!
Kevin Hart’s ex-wife Torrei Hart is the latest celebrity wife to double- down on why she’s decided to keep her ex-husband’s last name.
From Tameka Foster Raymond (Usher to Gizelle Bryant (Pastor Jamal Bryant) it’s not uncommon for a spouse to keep their last name well after the divorce. The question, though, is why?
According to Williams Law Group in New Jersey, many women choose to keep their ex-husband’s last name in an effort to stay connected to their children and to maintain stability within the household. Another reason some women will keep their ex-husband’s name is that the process to return to their maiden name can be a lengthy process. This includes obtaining documents to have the name change processed in addition to establishing new lines of credit which is not an overnight situation. Other reasons include emotional ties and the length of the marriage.
When it comes to actress Torrei Hart, it’s very clear that she simply has no interest in changing the name that she shares with her ex-husband, Kevin Hart.
The couple divorced back in 2010, but it wasn’t finalized until 2011. The former couple share two children: Heaven (16) and Hendrix (14). However, her growing acting career hasn’t stopped her opportunities despite maintaining the Hart brand.
When asked about her decision during an interview at LAX, her response was: “Cause it’s mine, first of all. Second of all, ’cause Kevin never asked for it back — he don’t want [me] to give it back, he’s not trippin’.”
“And third of all: my kids don’t want me to change my name,” she concluded.
