Just when we think 2020 is finished with surprises, the plot thickens. Kanye West announces his run for presidency via Twitter this past Sunday (July 5).
We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! #2020VISION

West first announced plans to run for president in November 2019 and confirms that he plans to stick to his word. The rapper’s wife retweeted his tweet with an American flag to pledge her support for the announcement.
Others like entrepreneur Elon Musk and rapper 2Chainz have also shown their support to the “Jesus Walks” rapper’s presidency aspirations.

Prior to his announcement, West has been under fire in the Black community for his public support of President Donald Trump.
“I’m a black guy with a red [MAGA] hat, can you imagine? It reminded me of how I felt as a black guy before I was famous when I would walk in a restaurant and people would look at you like you were going to steal something,” he told the outlet. “‘This is your place, Ye, don’t talk about apparel. This is your place, Ye, you’re black, so you’re a Democrat.’ ”
Although it seems as though he was supporting Trump, reports from an Instagram post by the High Snobiety suggest that West may have used this as a hidden agenda to benefit the Black community.
“GLC claims that Kanye has gotten rid of all his MAGA hats & was reportedly just wearing them to get innocent people out of jail,” says the account. The rapper and fellow G.O.O.D. artist allegedly shared on “The Red Pill” podcast, “Kanye actually gave me the boxes of hats. He said, ‘I’m never wearing these again.’ “
Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, are candidates in the forthcoming November election. Now that West has put in his bid, how do you think it’ll affect how people show up at the polls?
