More Than Celebrities: These Black Women Are Also Founders In Fashion And Beauty
Black women run the world! When it comes to style and success, this demographic just gets it without a second thought.
The fashion and beauty industries simply would not be what they are if it weren’t for Black women taking matters into their own hands and leading the charge. From Rihanna’s FENTY Beauty and Savage X Fenty to Beyoncè’s Cécred and Eau De Parfum, outside of being forces in entertainment, many Black women are building their portfolios with businesses that serve as an extension of who they are.
Here are just a few Black women in beauty and fashion that aspireTV wants to shine a spotlight on.
Cedella Marley
As the CEO of the Bob Marley Group of Companies, Cedella Marley is a force to be reckoned with. Most recently, the businesswoman, who is also the daughter of Rita and Bob Marley, partnered with IMH Fragrance to launch Marley Fragrance, a curated collection of six scents inspired by Bob Marley’s timeless messages of peace, love, and unity.
Additionally, each of the luxury fragrances in the line is curated using Mood-Enhancing Technology to evoke feelings of happiness, invigoration, or relaxation.
Tia Mowry
When actress Tia Mowry launched 4U By Tia, her goal was to simplify the natural hair journey for people who look like her by offering “easy, clean, and high-performing solutions” for “every kind of curl, coil, and wave.”
Not only do the products help others to champion their natural hair, but the 4U By Tia products use sustainable ingredients that are 100% safe for the entire family and the environment.
Venus Williams
As a wellness advocate, it is only right that Venus Williams’ EleVen is a nod to holistic health and self-empowerment. The fashion-forward activewear brand was created to promote both strength and style on and off the court.
Ciara
Coupled with her work as a musician, Ciara has always been known to set trends. Her OAM Skin and LITA brands showcase her love for good threads and maintaining a skincare routine.
Founded by the “Goodies” singer alongside a team of skincare experts, research scientists, and dermatologists, OAM is “on a mission to create a simple routine for all skin tones.” Similarly, products in her LITA, or Love Is the Answer, sustainable, ready-to-wear clothing line are designed using materials like organic cotton, recycled cashmere, and more substances with a lower environmental impact.
Angela Simmons
After changing the shoe game alongside her sister, Vanessa, through Pastry footwear, Angela continues to expand her business portfolio with her skincare line, Simmons Beauty.
The imprint offers everything from serums to bamboo masks, skincare tips, and beyond to help people both love and take care of the skin that they’re in!
Teyana Taylor
Alongside her daughter, Junie, Teyana Taylor is the co-founder of JuJu Beez, the kids’ fashion line that blends streetwear with family-forward style.
In addition to clothing offered on the company’s website, there’s a tab for Junie Juice Curls hair products that reads “Coming Soon.”
Serena Williams
Much like her sister Venus, Serena’s impact extends far beyond the court. With S by Serena, she’s brought forth a luxury fashion line that celebrates body positivity. Her newly launched Wyn Beauty is reimagining makeup, focusing on performance and long-wear for on-the-go women like herself.
